McDonald’s and myday, the perfect combination?

25th July 2018

Welcome to the second instalment of Collabco’s face behind the logo series, where we give you an insight into the people behind the myday brand. This week we have our Business Development Manager Adam Smith, a family and football man who fancies himself as a bit of a McDonalds connoisseur. We’ll leave the explaining up to him!

Q – So Adam, how long have you worked here and what attracted you to apply for a job at Collabco?

A – I have worked at Collabco since April 2017. What attracted me was the fact that the company specialises in the education market and in my previous roles I have always had a vested interest in this sector, so it seemed like a perfect fit. Also, myday as a product is one of the most cutting-edge pieces of technology I have seen, every time we show it to new people they are blown away.

– What makes your day to day job enjoyable and what outside of work keeps you motivated?

A – The enjoyable aspects of the day to day job are meeting and speaking with new people at different institutions with different ideas on how digital technology can enhance their students learning. Outside of work it mostly revolves around my family with 2 young daughters, one 2 and one 4 months old, they keep me very busy! Apart from that, I love to play football, as and when I get the chance.

Q – Where are some of the nicest places you have visited on your travels with myday?

A – Most places we go to are nice but a trip to Paris for a conference called EUNIS was a bonus and allowed me to do some sightseeing (even though it was raining). York is very nice and walking through the town centre having a coffee opposite York Minster is lovely. Also, I suppose I have to mention Liverpool, as that is the HQ of Collabco!

Q – What are your 5 tips for using myday to its full potential?

A – There are lots of amazing ways to use myday, but here are the most important in my opinion:

  • Don’t be afraid to put something out to students and gain feedback. myday is designed to be constantly evolving and fluid in change
  • Make your dashboards student focused and include things to interest them. This will improve engagement massively
  • Use it as one of your main communication methods and really utilise the news features to connect
  • Utilise the developer training course as this opens up a world of possibilities on how you can enhance myday further
  • Involve all departments at your institution as they often they will have different ways to make the platform success. Don’t limit yourselves to one sector!

Q – And finally, the big question. Is it true that for every institution you visit, you have to sample their local McDonalds?

A – I can’t lie, McDonalds is a guilty pleasure and I am often drawn in by the golden arches, especially around Monopoly time! I do like to try new venues I haven’t had the pleasure of dining at yet. A particular favourite is at Uttoxeter, the A50 is a regularly used road for travelling, so you can often catch me there!

Would you like to arrange a meeting with Adam to discuss all things myday and McDonalds?
